OTTAWA – June 11 2014 – IceNet Wireless is proud to announce the deployment of free Wi-Fi in the first set of City of Ottawa facilities. The City of Ottawa, together with IceNet Wireless and its partners were able to successfully complete 10 sites of the City wide project in early June. The Wi-Fi connection has been deployed and currently being used by its visitors in the following locations:
- Richcraft Recreation Complex
- St Laurent Complex
- Hunt Club – Riverside Community Centre
- Jack Purcell Community Centre
- Splash Wave Pool
- Ottawa City Hall
- Overbrook Community Centre
- Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre
- Goulbourn Recreation Centre
- Greenboro Community Centre
Patrons of these facilities are currently enjoying free Wi-Fi in hotspot zones located in public areas in each facility. Family, friends and visitors have the ability to surf the web freely while they wait for their loved ones.
On June 7th 2014, City Hall hosted Open Door where the visitors and booth participants took advantage of the free Wi-Fi offered by IceNet Wireless. “The City of Ottawa is always looking to partner with innovative organizations in order to improve services for residents," said Mayor Jim Watson. "This partnership gives residents another great reason to visit City of Ottawa facilities.”
Users can simply connect without having to enter a password to MyFreeWiFi/MonWiFigratuit using their smart device or laptop, accept the City’s terms and conditions and be taken to IceNet Wireless’ web portal where they will be able to view the weather, navigate to the City of Ottawa website, view local advertisements or go straight to surfing the web in one click. They have unlimited access to the Internet and in the month of April and May, visitors have viewed over 1.1 Million pages.
“We are so pleased to bring free Wi-Fi to these first City facilities. Over 8,000 visitors have already accessed MyFreeWiFi and we look forward to deploying the next locations to serve more patrons across Ottawa”, said Dr. Anand Srinivasan, Vice-President of IceNet Wireless.
MyFreeWiFi has had impressive statistics in the months of April and May with:
- Over 8,000 unique visitors
- An average of 150 unique visitors per day
- Over 1.1 Million page views
IceNet Wireless is working towards getting the next sites up and running next month with a plan to have all 25 locations deployed by end of July 2014.
