Free Public Wi-Fi Launch Completed in City Facilities

Patrons can access free Wi-Fi in 24 Community and Recreation Centers

OTTAWA – August 26, 2014 – IceNet Wireless with City of Ottawa is proud to announce the completion of the free Wi-Fi deployment in the City of Ottawa facilities. In February 2014, The City of Ottawa announced free Wi-Fi project in partnership with IceNet Wireless. The Wi-Fi connection, coined as My Free Wi-Fi (Mon Wi-Fi gratuit), has been deployed and is currently being used by its visitors in the locations outlined in this announcement. My Free Wi-Fi has been deployed in 24 City facilities with the Minto Recreation Complex - Barrhaven to be launched once the state-of-the-art building opens later this year. This will bring the total number of facilities connected to 25. Since the announcement of the Free Wi-Fi project, IceNet has been deploying the network in controlled phases and patrons were given access to Free Wi-Fi while visiting these facilities, My Free Wi-Fi has posted significant numbers in the months of June and July:

  • Over 600,000 sessions
  • Over 62,000 users (average of 1000 users per day)
  • Over 1.4 million page views

  • Free Wi-Fi Goes Live in City of Ottawa’s first set of facilities

    OTTAWA – June 11 2014 – IceNet Wireless is proud to announce the deployment of free Wi-Fi in the first set of City of Ottawa facilities. The City of Ottawa, together with IceNet Wireless and its partners were able to successfully complete 10 sites of the City wide project in early June. The Wi-Fi connection has been deployed and currently being used by its visitors in the following locations:

    Patrons of these facilities are currently enjoying free Wi-Fi in hotspot zones located in public areas in each facility. Family, friends and visitors have the ability to surf the web freely while they wait for their loved ones.

    On June 7th 2014, City Hall hosted Open Door where the visitors and booth participants took advantage of the free Wi-Fi offered by IceNet Wireless. “The City of Ottawa is always looking to partner with innovative organizations in order to improve services for residents," said Mayor Jim Watson. "This partnership gives residents another great reason to visit City of Ottawa facilities.”

    Users can simply connect without having to enter a password to MyFreeWiFi/MonWiFigratuit using their smart device or laptop, accept the City’s terms and conditions and be taken to IceNet Wireless’ web portal where they will be able to view the weather, navigate to the City of Ottawa website, view local advertisements or go straight to surfing the web in one click. They have unlimited access to the Internet and in the month of April and May, visitors have viewed over 1.1 Million pages.
